In 2006, Charles retired from the U.S. Navy, where for the last 13 years he worked in the Judge
Advocate General’s Corps (JAG), in addition to his service as a surface warfare officer.
While in the JAG Corps, he worked principally in the area of criminal defense, earning a
reputation as a premier trial attorney.
During his tenure, Charles was involved in litigation
in some of the highest profile cases in the U.S. military, from defense of the Navy’s use of
the Vieques bombing range in Puerto Rico against environmental litigation, to defending senior
military officers in complex criminal cases. Most noteworthy is his quest for justice at Guantanamo
Bay, Cuba, concluding with the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld.
John Cline

John Cline has extensive experience in white-collar criminal defense, handling complex trials and appeals in state and federal courts nationwide. His clients have included National Security Council aide Oliver North, computer scientist Wen Ho Lee, and other individuals and entities.
John is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Before joining Jones Day in 2004 he was a shareholder at Freedman Boyd Daniels Hollander Goldberg & Cline P.A. in Albuquerque, New Mexico and a partner at Williams & Connolly in Washington, D.C.

Ms. Hollander has been a member of the firm since 1980 and a partner since 1983. Her practice is largely devoted to criminal trials and appeals. She has also been counsel in numerous civil cases, forfeitures and administrative hearings, including several involving national security issues and has argued and won a case involving religious freedom in the United States Supreme Court. (see decision) Ms. Hollander also served as a consultant to the defense in a high profile terrorism case in Dublin, Ireland and has assisted counsel in other international cases.

She is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Middle District of Florida and the Central District of California, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals, First Circuit. She has appeared pro hac vice before the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Texas, the Southern District of New York, and the Southern District of Florida. Ms. Moreno received her B.A. from the University of Southern California in 1974 and her J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles in 1979.

Mr. Deutsch was chosen as the public interest lawyer of the year in 2003 and as a finalist for this award in 2001. Mr. Deutsch was one of the lawyers for the Attica prisoners and helped to obtain a 12 million dollar settlement for their class-action civl rights suit resulting from the New York State officials vioaltions of their civil rights. Mr. Deutsch was also a past legal director of the New York based Center for Constitutional Rights.

Marlo Cadeddu graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown Law School in Washington, D.C. where she was a recipient of the Order of the Coif and the CALI Excellence for the Future Award. While at Georgetown Law, she participated in the school's Criminal Justice Clinic and was recognized by the International Academy of Trial Lawyers as the outstanding clinic student for her work in aggressively and successfully defending clients charged with felonies in state court in Montgomery County, Maryland. After graduation, Ms. Cadeddu clerked for Chief Judge A. Joe Fish of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas in preparation for her career as a criminal trial attorney. During her tenure as a law clerk, Ms. Cadeddu reviewed and analyzed more than a hundred presentence reports ("PSRs") and numerous habeas corpus petitions.
