All the money donated to MLFA is used towards organizaing and funding the litigation of ....
- Does MLFA conduct any overseas transactions?
NO. MLFA does not conduct any overseas transactions.
- Are any of my donations to MLFA sent overseas?
NO. MLFA does not send any money to another country.
- If I donate to MLFA, does that implicate me in any way?
No.
- I want to help defend innocent people through the legal system, but I am afraid that if I donate to MLFA and some of the funds are used in the defense of the HLF case, that would implicate me as sympathetic to Hamas?
Of course not. Our goal is to use the legal system to fight injustice. That is the best and recommended way to defend the innocent. Also, it is important to know that all the money donated to MLFA goes into a big pool. The money is then used to facilitate and litigate various cases that MLFA would be currently working on.
- Does the government frown upon those who donate to MLFA?
No. Giving money to MLFA is like hiring a lawyer to defend oneself. Just like it is not illegal to hire a lawyer to defend yourself, it is not illegal to donate money to MLFA to defend those who are unfailly accused of a crime.
- Can we use Zakat funds to donate to MLFA?
Yes. In March of 2003, MLFA received a fatwa from the ISNA Fiqh Council of North America declaring donations to MLFA as legitimate Zakat-ul-Mal.
